Deep from the depths of [Vacation's] Wayne Memmer's head comes the newest EP from the soft folk band, Locust Lane. This new chilling EP presents five new songs in the form of a free download via Vacation's [bandcamp]. "Kingdom Come" is the lead song on the EP and what I personally feel is the perfect song to sum up the whole EP, quiet-yet-captivating. Each song is it's own respectable being, but they naturally all sort of flow together. Snag the EP (linked above) and you can also hear (and see!) another new tune "Anything For You" [here].
I know this isn't usually the type of song you would see here on Minimum Burrito, but this song is just too crazy. You must, must, must, have good speakers/headphones to get the full benefit of this song, but if not it is still extremely dance-able. And I mean come-on, who doesn't love hearing [Lil'Jon] scream, "WE HIT TURBULENCE!"
It's safe to say that within the past year or two there has been a rather large explosion of beach-pop revival bands that have been making the scene and it's making it more and more difficult to weed out the ones that are worth listening too. Well, so regally placed into my inbox not too long ago was Moon/Ruin, a beach, "melt pop" band with a new album out titled "Ocean." So I hobbled on down to bandcamp to check it out and I'm instantly blown away. Title track and album opener "Ocean" instantly locks you down for a ride through the waves. Speaking of, these guys blow Wavves out the water! Kale Ogle's ever present voice with the clashing of guitars and smashing of drums all strung together are so perfectly balanced it's mind melting. Download the entire "Ocean" album [here]. You can also check out the absolutely bonkers video for the track "My Demons" [here].
As of right now Moonlight Mask have only four songs out and about and each one is hook-laden and sappy for fuzz and fun. The forerunner of their four tracks in my opinion is easily "A Coruña" with it's fast, up-beat kick that will have you jumping right into its mellowed out guitar hook that will take you back down to Earth with's get-down groove. Its "sunny beach" presence makes it a stand out from the crowd of singles, all of which you can grab over at Moonlight Mask's bandcamp [here].
It's summer time, all the Skippys are returning home from school waiting to relax and bathe in the fresh, young sun. Glowing cities and shimmering seas liter the coasts of the northern hemisphere for all of those who have been wishing for them to return for those long winter months. Once the schools are deserted and beaches populated is when summer really starts, so why not kick off your shoes, stick your feet in the sand, pop in Rebar and Plums new EP "Simple Glass Brackets for the Dark Dark Heat" and just watch the waves... Twisted, warbling synths backed by R&B beats crowd most of [Cop Magnet's] songs, but especially "Alexander Preview." The thumping bass with the piercing synths make it dance floor killer, but yet personal listening friendly. Regardless where you are, or what you are doing, Cop Magnet's tracks fit all situations. Anyone who has ever taken the time to read any of these will probably notice that every once in a while they'll stumble upon a post about [Holy Other]. We of Minimum Advice have always, and if things stay the course they are going, will always love Holy Other. From their first single off [Transparent] to their new EP "With U" from [Tri Angle Records]. From the whispery vocals to the bass that thumps mindlessly in the backdrop, "With U" is like any other piece from Holy Other, but not too say that it blends in with the rest and is nothing special. You can stream "With U" [here] and can purchase it from Tri Angle on June 7th.
Boston-based [Magic Man] make whirling synth-pop that blows your ears and eyes right out of your head. Real Life Color is an album bubbling over the top with a frothy sound of distorted synths, 8-bit drum beats, and twinkling chimes and jingles topped off with a cherry of echoed vocals that make each song feel like they are a part of one big work of art. The clicks and clacks and how they all come together to form one being on tracks like "South Dakota" and "Nest" make each one worth noting and checking out. Download Real Life Color at Magic Man's bandcamp linked above.
[Last time] we got a touch of [Rimar] it was stand alone track "WAYS" from his newly released second album Higher Ground. That track alone was pretty satisfying, but now that it is in line with 8 other tracks, it's sort of the dull one of the bunch. Most of Rimar's previous work was just beat making that was never all that fulfilling, but all that has change now with Higher Ground. Higher Ground takes life through songs that echo R&B and even slower new-wave style tracks, like the album's title track and closer "Hi." Each song is another trip through a forgotten memory, whether it takes place in a roller ring, an old chevy, or some long forgotten house party, the rolling synths and pulsing back beats keep you hooked the entire time. You can sang the whole album (which I EXTREMELY recommend you do) over at Rimar's bandcamp [here].
I'm not sure if the vocals in [Jewellers'] "Forward Life" are mirrored, reversed, another language, or even anything at all but regardless what they are they are absolutely tantalizing. "Absolutely tantalizing" is a trend that follows through all of Jewellers' album "Sleep Education." Whether it's the shattered vocals on songs like "Forward Life" or the distant, sort-of "hidden" sound of the band on tracks like "You Don't Know," each song captivates you in its own special way. Softly played and loudly spoken jams comprise [Vows'] debut album "Winter's Grave" with 11 tracks of folk-rock grooves. Those 11 tracks range from acoustic hook heavy songs like "Anywhere You Go" to full-on jamborees such as album closer "Dead Ends." When I first saw [Femminielli's] [soundcloud] I thought to myself, "Oh God not another ambient band, nobody needs any more of those," but man was I wrong. All of Femminielli's songs still have that ambient tinge to them, but have much more of a build than the genre's usual standards for builds. These songs escalate and have a peak too them that even though it isn't like a dubstep one where it blows your ears out of the water, it is enough for you to feel like you're getting something out of the piece. Femminielli has achieved himself a captivating sound with little-to-no "grip" from the song. They are all very easy to get into and should be listened too in the background, not directly.
It's always a fantastic thing to open up my inbox and see a new song from [Labyrinth Ear]. It seems that in this installment they have taken a classic from 1980s folk/rock musician [Arthur Russell] and placed their own signature electro touch on the very smooth, calming "Walk on the Moon." Along with a bit of a bass boost and a very new wave-y touch to the guitar riff that keeps the song moving, they have given the track a sort of "sonic face-lift" making it a much more accessible track by today's standards. You can snag the track over at Labyrinth Ear's website (linked above) and can compare the cover to the original [here]. While you are there I would suggest checking out their "Oak EP," it's sublime.
"Don't Call Me" is the first full length release from Calgary's [No You Hang Up] and the tenth release on [Meow Posse Records]. It's a collection of soft, hazy, lo-fi jams that are beaten and battered with percussion and guitars that sound so barely there, yet so mellow it'll melt your soul. No You Hang Up have a raw, emotional sound behind their colorful album art that hooks you in an instant and hugs you so tight you can't resist.
